Module "Architectural Design Studio III" lead by Ms. Vernoica Ng Foong Peng.
Module Outline
Project 1Analysing Architecture | The Journey of 5 Senses
Group 20%. Objectives: 1. Identify and explain different spatial types in architecture, and how they inform spatial use and experience. 2. Create tectonic expressions of different spatial typologies which impact on the uses and experiential conditions of space. Tasks: In a group of 5, students are randomly given a visitor interpretive center designed by a master architect. Students are to conduct precedent analysis on given VIC regarding function, spatial poetics, spatial typologies and plan-section relationship. Students are to produce 3 A3 bound presentation boards on their conducted analysis. Models production are encouraged to enhance the poetic quality of the VIC. |

Final Outcome
The final outcomes of the project are 1:100 scale model of retreat house and presentation boards.
Project 2Visitor Interpretive Center
Individual 80%. Objectives: 1. Produce site analysis which document, interpret and analyze the site context and the ‘genius loci’ of place and generate design based on the unique character and conditions of the site context. 2. Generate design through conscious consideration of section-plan relationship with considerations of human scale, natural light, materials/texture. 3. Design a small scale community building which response to the site (site topography, history and socio-cultural events), functional program and users’ experiences. Tasks: The whole class were devided into groups in order to produce a site analysis on 2 different selected sites in Sekinchan before, during and after the site visit. Students then have to decide on a site they see potential to design a VIC. Students have to produce 4 A1 bound presentation boards to convey their designs according to the requirements stated in the project brief. |
